  1. I can’t remember the last time I saw someone writing in a cafe with pen and paper. Even the ones on computers seem to be mostly on social networking sites. Where have all the writers gone?

  2. I’ve mentioned often how much I like to write at my favorite coffee house. Your last paragraph nicely sums up my reasons why. I love being around other people as I’m not at home, yet without anything being demanded of me. I like vaguely hearing quiet conversation going on around me, watching people coming and going, hearing good music that someone else controls. But now that I’ve moved across town and that coffee house isn’t convenient anymore, I’m finding more and more that it’s an unusual place. I went into a Starbucks for awhile today to write, just because it’s the closest sit-down coffee location to where I live, and it was a totally different atmosphere: music too loud, people yelling to one another across the room, doors slamming. At Mud Bay Coffee, people often sit quietly and write, either by hand or on their computers. I know of at least two other fountain pen users, and see lots of others writing as well. But I’m beginning to think Mud Bay’s clientele is the exception to the norm in a great many ways.
