About eleven years ago, in 1997, a chapter of my novel Oase (1994) was translated into English and included in the anthology Outside the lines: new Dutch and Flemish writing, published in the Literary Review (Vol 40 no.3; by Fairleigh Dickinson University. For years I had to give photocopies of this publication to friends and acquaintences who couldn’t read Dutch but were curious about my work. I think it was around the year 2000 that I heard from people at Mediamatic that Northern Light, a search engine of sorts, offered access to Down Below, the chapter from Oase, for $1.70.
As she was showing me the amazing properties of her new iPhone, yesterday night, while lying in bed, Annemie did a vanity search and lo’ and behold, there we discovered this link. Now everybody can read the chapter from my novel about Yorick Oorman, the mysterious drug alfanol and the letters to his unborn son, free of charge. For those interested: enjoy.
