Funny– I have the exact same dictionary, in the same state of improvised repair! Those of us who are afflicted with manual typewriter syndrome seem to share much else in common. Anyway, I enjoy your posts in whichever language you choose to write. I do not read Dutch, but it is an interesting exercise for me to translate a few words with the help of Babelfish, and try to understand the rest based on context. I don’t challenge myself this way often enough, so please, don’t think twice about using the language that reaches your fingertips first.

Ben zelf ook al tijden aan het experimenteren met verschillende manieren om schrift te produceren. Dos tekstverwerkers, Windows tekstverwerkers, Apple tekstverwerkers, handschrift met vulpen, ballpoint, potlood, op gelinieerd papier, blanco papier, notitieboekjes, gefotografeerde tekst, ingescande tekst . Alleen de schrijfmachine ontbreekt nog aan het rijtje. Het heeft voor een deel te maken met de zoektocht naar concentratie en prettigste techniek om van taal tekst te maken. Ik kan me voorstellen dat het getik van een schrijfmachine een bepaalde roes oplevert die productief kan zijn. Zoiets als de stofzuiger van Vestdijk of eenzaam schrijven bij kaarslicht terwijl een huilende wind rond je blokhut raast.

Dirk, your English is excellent, far better that my non-existent Dutch. I often think that we’re the silly ones, writing about junk shops and pens and pencil erasers. Please don’t be self-conscious.
